KLUST and Shenzhen Polytechnic University Strengthen Strategic Partnership Through Virtual Collaboration Meeting

Kuala Lumpur University of Science and Technology (KLUST) and Shenzhen Polytechnic University (SZPU) held a virtual meeting on 23 July to strengthen their strategic partnership and explore opportunities for collaboration in academic exchange, technical and vocational education and training (TVET), research, and industry partnerships. The meeting was led by Professor Chen Xiaoyun, Chairman of the Board of Directors of KLUST, and Professor Wang Hui, President of Shenzhen Polytechnic University, together with the senior management teams and representatives from both universities.

Building on the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) previously signed between the two institutions, both parties reviewed the progress of their partnership and discussed practical initiatives to translate their collaboration into tangible outcomes. Key areas of cooperation include academic staff mobility, joint programme development, the establishment of industry academies, collaborative research, and international education initiatives.

Professor Chen Xiaoyun reaffirmed KLUST’s commitment to strengthening international partnerships that promote talent development, innovation, and industry collaboration. He highlighted Malaysia’s growing digital economy as a strong platform for Malaysia–China educational cooperation and noted KLUST’s continued expansion through initiatives such as its Penang branch campus and industry academies in cross-border e-commerce, new energy vehicles (NEVs), and AI-powered digital human technologies.

“By combining our strengths, we can create greater opportunities for students, academics, and industry while advancing higher education and TVET in both countries,” he said.

Professor Wang Hui reaffirmed Shenzhen Polytechnic University’s commitment to deepening cooperation with KLUST and expressed confidence that the partnership would foster academic excellence, innovation, and global talent development. He noted that both universities share a common vision of preparing industry-ready graduates equipped with global competencies and pledged the university’s full support for future collaborative initiatives.

Professor Zhou Yanbing, Vice President of Shenzhen Polytechnic University, proposed launching faculty exchange programmes as an early priority to strengthen collaboration in teaching, research, and curriculum development while laying a solid foundation for broader joint initiatives.

During the meeting, representatives from both universities also discussed project implementation strategies, governance mechanisms, timelines, and future collaboration frameworks. The discussions concluded with a shared understanding of the next phase of cooperation and several priority initiatives for immediate follow-up.

Moving forward, KLUST and Shenzhen Polytechnic University will establish dedicated working groups to coordinate project implementation, strengthen institutional collaboration, and expand partnerships across education, research, innovation, and industry. Both universities reaffirmed their shared commitment to building a sustainable Malaysia–China partnership that supports talent development, innovation, and regional economic growth, while contributing to the continued advancement of higher education and TVET in both countries.
