On 15 May 2026, Malaysia’s Minister of Digital, Gobind Singh Deo, received Prof. Chen Xiaoyun, Chairman of Star Youth International Group and Board Chairman of Kuala Lumpur University of Science and Technology (KLUST), at the Ministry of Digital Malaysia. The meeting was also attended by Member of Parliament YB Tan Kok Wai, senior officials from the Ministry of Digital, and Prof. Suraya, Vice Chancellor of KLUST.
Minister Gobind Singh Deo warmly welcomed the delegation and shared Malaysia’s key priorities in digital transformation. He stated that Malaysia is actively advancing towards becoming an “AI Nation”. He emphasized that artificial intelligence should not remain as a concept, but should be practically applied to improve people’s daily lives, driving sustainable social and economic development.

The Minister also encouraged KLUST to introduce more AI, artificial intelligence, and digital skills programmes and micro-courses to enhance national digital literacy and AI adoption among the public.

Prof. Chen Xiaoyun expressed his appreciation and introduced KLUST’s development journey, academic model, infrastructure, and international collaborations. He stated that KLUST will actively align with Malaysia’s national digital transformation strategy, leveraging its strengths in AI and digital technologies to develop public-oriented AI micro-courses and digital skills training platforms.

He also highlighted ongoing cooperation with Shenzhen Institute of Information Technology, including plans to jointly establish a branch campus and training facilities in Penang, focusing on AI, digital technologies, and smart manufacturing.
Prof. Chen stated that KLUST aims to become a leading technology university in Malaysia and ASEAN — the “Stanford of Malaysia” — nurturing high-quality AI and digital talent for the region.
Minister Gobind Singh Deo welcomed the initiatives and reaffirmed Malaysia’s strong commitment to developing its digital economy and AI ecosystem, expressing support for KLUST’s contributions.

At the end of the meeting, the Minister invited Prof. Chen for a commemorative photo and extended his best wishes for KLUST’s continued growth and contribution to Malaysia’s AI-driven future.
