Kuala Lumpur University of Science and Technology (KLUST) recently reinforced its commitment to advancing digital governance and artificial intelligence (AI) applications in regulatory supervision through an official visit to Nanning, China, from 27 to 31 October 2025. Prof. Dr. Huam Hon Tat, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), represented KLUST at the high-profile ASEAN Countries-Oriented AI+ Industrial Standardization Exchange and Mutual Learning Program, as well as the “AI Market Supervision and Service Innovation Application Competition.”

The exchange program, hosted by the ASEAN Countries-Oriented Standardization Cooperation and Exchange Center, the China Electronics Standardization Institute, and the Guangxi Institute of Standards and Technology, offered KLUST the opportunity to engage with leading experts and institutions from China and ASEAN nations. During the visit, Prof. Dr. Huam also served as an invited judge for the AI Market Supervision competition, organized jointly by the Guangxi Administration for Market Regulation, the Guangxi Committee of the Communist Youth League, the Nanning Municipal People’s Government, the Autonomous Region Data Administration, and the Autonomous Region Medical Products Administration.

Prof. Dr. Huam actively participated in the final round of the competition on 29 October, conducting professional evaluations of the participating projects. The judging process provided a comprehensive understanding of AI innovation teams’ research achievements and technological capabilities across the region. KLUST also gained valuable insights into the latest models and applications of AI in regulatory supervision, as well as the cooperation frameworks for standardization in ASEAN countries.

This initiative marks a significant step forward for KLUST in strengthening regional cooperation in AI and regulatory innovation. By participating in such high-level exchanges, KLUST continues to position itself as a leading institution in fostering research collaboration, knowledge sharing, and capacity building across ASEAN and China.
