A PLATFORM FOR PRACTICE AND POSSIBILITY
Three KLUST lecturers shared classroom-tested ideas and forward-looking approaches in a collegial session designed to strengthen teaching across disciplines.

The spirit of teaching excellence and innovation continued at Kuala Lumpur University of Science and Technology (KLUST) when the Teaching & Learning Centre (TLC) convened Round 6 of the Teaching Competency & Innovation Competition 2026 on 17 August 2026. More than a contest, the initiative provides lecturers with a professional forum to demonstrate promising approaches, examine classroom practice and exchange ideas that can enrich students’ learning experiences.

This round brought together three committed presenters—Ms Arichanna Gopal, Ts. Idris Taib and Mr Sanjay Kumar Ramachandran. Each presentation offered a distinctive perspective on effective teaching while reflecting a common purpose: to make learning more engaging, relevant and responsive to the needs of today’s students.

Ideas that Move Learning Forward

Across the session, the presenters demonstrated how purposeful innovation can connect pedagogy, technology and authentic experience. The focus was not on technology for its own sake, but on the thoughtful design of learning—using appropriate tools, reflection and professional judgement to help students participate actively and transfer classroom learning to real contexts.

From experimentation to professional learning

The willingness of the presenters to make their practices visible was a central strength of the event. By explaining the rationale behind their approaches, they enabled colleagues to consider not only what might work in a classroom, but also why it works, for whom it works and how its effectiveness can be evaluated. This reflective dimension turns individual experimentation into shared institutional learning.

The session also underscored a principle that lies at the heart of effective educational innovation: new methods should remain anchored in clear learning outcomes, sound pedagogy and meaningful student engagement. Whether using artificial intelligence, structured reflection or experiential learning, innovation is most valuable when it improves the quality, relevance and inclusiveness of the learning process.

“Innovation becomes meaningful when it strengthens the learning experience and gives educators practical ideas they can adapt.”

ROUND 6 TAKEAWAY

A collective commitment

KLUST extends its sincere appreciation to the judges, Associate Professor Dr Lim Hock Ann and Dr Audi Majdan bin Kamarul Bahrain, for contributing their time, expertise and constructive evaluations. Appreciation is also extended to the staff members whose questions, observations and encouragement created an interactive environment for professional exchange.

Through successive rounds, the Teaching Competency & Innovation Competition continues to strengthen a university-wide culture of reflective practice and educational excellence. It encourages lecturers to learn across disciplinary boundaries and translate promising ideas into meaningful improvements in teaching and learning.
