Kuala Lumpur University of Science and Technology establishes a new international platform for industry-integrated education, employability and entrepreneurship
Held on 22 September 2026 at KLUST’s International Multifunction Hall, the engagement brought together representatives from Fanxing Excellence, industry partners and KLUST’s academic and leadership teams. The programme included the unveiling of the KLUST–Fanxing Excellence Global Technology Business School, followed by discussions on opportunities for further cooperation.
KUALA LUMPUR, 22 September 2026 — Kuala Lumpur University of Science and Technology (KLUST) officially launched the FANXING Excellence Global Technology Business School, establishing a new platform that brings together education, technology and talent development in response to the opportunities and challenges of the artificial intelligence era.
Positioned as part of KLUST’s efforts to deepen China–ASEAN cooperation in education and industry, the Business School adopts the philosophy of “Digital Foundations, Intelligent Growth and AI Empowerment”. Built on academic education, industry practice, and Huawei-inspired management principles, it aims to integrate emerging technologies with corporate governance, brand building, strategic execution, leadership development, and practical industry experience.
The Business School is designed to support young people from diverse backgrounds in developing the confidence, skills, discipline, and practical experience needed to navigate a rapidly changing global economy. Through its industry-integrated approach, it seeks to develop versatile professionals and future business leaders with global capabilities, while contributing to high-quality development across the Belt and Road region.
More than 100 university leaders, experts, staff and students attended the launch ceremony. Among the distinguished guests were YB Tan Kok Wai, Member of Parliament, former Special Envoy to China and Adviser to KLUST; Professor Datuk Seri Dr Zaini Ujang, Chairman of the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and former Secretary-General of the Ministry of Higher Education; Professor Tan Sri Dr Ghauth Jasmon, Chairman of KLUST’s Global Academic Advisory Council and former Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Malaya; Professor Datuk Seri Dr Annuar Musa, Member of the Malaysian Senate; Datuk Lim Heng Yi, Deputy President of the Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce and President of the China-ASEAN (Malaysia) Entrepreneurs Association; Qiu Meng Wei, member of the KLUST Board of Governors and Executive Director of Fidelity Group; and Professor Chen Xiaoyun, Chairman of the KLUST Board of Governors.
The ceremony was chaired by Professor Dr Fan Hongda, Executive President of KLUST.
Learning from global leaders: Industry experts come together to shape a practice-driven business school
Former Huawei Vice President Ge Cai Feng has brought together senior executives and trainers from Huawei’s regional operations, practical experts from Huawei University, as well as executives and trainers from Fortune Global 500 companies, leading listed companies, academia and the investment sector to support the development of the FANXING Excellence Global Technology Business School.
Drawing on a model inspired by Huawei’s approach to talent and management development, the Business School aims to establish an integrated platform connecting education, technology and talent with Fortune Global 500 companies, listed companies and growing enterprises, supporting both talent development and business transformation.
The new Business School represents a strategic step in KLUST’s development as an application-oriented technology university. Moving beyond conventional classroom-based education, it is guided by three core principles: high-quality teaching, high-standard employability, and deep industry-academia integration.
The School will bring together academic, institutional and industry expertise through a range of practice-oriented programmes, including the Executive Assistant Programme, Company Secretary Programme, five specialist programmes for listed-company management, Young CEO Programme, Software Engineering and AI Chief Information Officer Programme, and AI Product Manager Programme.
Together, these programmes form a practice-oriented talent development framework designed around the needs of industry.
Leadership perspectives: Connecting education with the needs of a changing economy
Representing KLUST, Professor Dr Suraya, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of KLUST, delivered the university’s welcome address.
She said the establishment of the FANXING Excellence Global Technology Business School marked a new chapter in KLUST’s international collaboration and industry-academia integration.
As globalisation and intelligent technologies continue to reshape industries, she noted that closer collaboration between education, technology, talent and industry has become increasingly important.
She expressed hope that the new Business School would draw on the expertise of leading professionals and industry resources to create new pathways for young people, enabling students to navigate future changes in the workplace and build meaningful careers and lives.
In his address, YB Tan Kok Wai, Member of Parliament, former Special Envoy to China and Adviser to KLUST, highlighted the growing demand for highly skilled talent as technological innovation and artificial intelligence continue to transform economies and societies.
He said KLUST’s direction towards becoming a leading technology university in Malaysia and ASEAN aligns closely with the establishment of the FANXING Excellence Global Technology Business School.
Professor Datuk Seri Dr Zaini Ujang, Chairman of the Malaysian Qualifications Agency and former Secretary-General of the Ministry of Higher Education, emphasised the importance of differentiated learning and experiential education in contemporary higher education.
He said practitioners with first-hand industry experience are an important part of university education, adding that Ge Cai Feng’s extensive experience in global business management and operations would bring valuable industry perspectives to the university.
He expressed hope that the initiative would develop into a strong example of industry-academia integration in Southeast Asian higher education.
Professor Tan Sri Dr Ghauth Jasmon, Chairman of KLUST’s Global Academic Advisory Council and former Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Malaya, also welcomed the establishment of the Business School as a strategic initiative for KLUST.
He highlighted the value of combining Ge Cai Feng’s extensive industry experience with the expertise of academics, creating stronger connections between higher education and the realities of industry.
He noted that the collaboration could help attract students from across the region while giving students and educators greater insight into the principles and practices behind successful businesses.
He also expressed hope that the partnership would support Malaysia’s industrial development while contributing to KLUST’s broader ambitions as a technology-focused university.
Professor Datuk Seri Dr Annuar Musa, Member of the Malaysian Senate, highlighted the importance of maintaining a strong human-centred perspective alongside rapid technological development.
As artificial intelligence continues to evolve and new regulatory frameworks emerge, she said education has an important role to play in ensuring that technological progress remains grounded in human dignity and social responsibility.
She congratulated KLUST on the establishment of the Business School and expressed her continued support for the university’s development and talent initiatives.
Passing on experience: Ge Cai Feng appointed as Dean
Following the addresses, distinguished guests gathered on stage to officially launch the FANXING Excellence Global Technology Business School, marking the formal establishment of the new China–ASEAN industry-academia platform.
Professor Chen Xiaoyun, Chairman of the KLUST Board of Governors, subsequently presented Ge Cai Feng with his appointment letter as Dean and conferred upon him the title of Lifetime Honorary Professor.
In his inaugural address, Ge Cai Feng drew on his two decades of experience with Huawei, including 13 years in vice-presidential leadership roles, as well as his academic journey, professional experience, and work supporting the transformation and growth of more than 10 small and medium-sized enterprises.
He outlined three qualities he believes are increasingly important for young professionals entering industry: the determination to pursue meaningful goals through hard work, the ability to continuously learn and develop new capabilities, and a strong commitment to integrity and professional ethics.
He emphasised that the real needs of industry should inform the way universities educate and prepare students for the workplace.
To strengthen the connection between education and employment, he advocated closer university-industry collaboration and the integration of workplace competency requirements into the learning process.
He said he would draw on his industry experience to develop practical learning opportunities, including mentorship and workplace-based training, with the aim of developing technology and business professionals who are capable of taking responsibility and delivering results.
Industry-academia collaboration: Four industry institutes support a practice-based talent ecosystem
In his concluding address, Professor Chen Xiaoyun, Chairman of the KLUST Board of Governors, said the FANXING Excellence Global Technology Business School would leverage KLUST’s global industry partnership network to deepen China–ASEAN cooperation in education and industry while responding to the opportunities created by AI.
He described the Business School as a platform for integrating education, technology and talent development, with a focus on employability and industry development.
“The Business School focuses on developing talent, while the industry institutes focus on putting that talent into practice.”
The Business School will be supported by a network of industry mentors, including Fortune Global 500 executives and practitioners from listed companies. Rather than relying solely on classroom-based teaching, students will gain practical exposure through training workshops and real industry projects.
KLUST’s four industry institutes will serve as important practice-based platforms within this talent development ecosystem, allowing students to participate in research and development, operations and workplace projects while connecting academic learning with real industry environments.
China-Malaysia New Energy Vehicle Industry Institute
The China-Malaysia New Energy Vehicle Industry Institute is being developed in partnership with Chery Automobile, including the Chery Automobile Excellence Engineer Academy.
With a 5,280-square-metre training facility, the institute covers areas including vehicle assembly, digital and online marketing, after-sales operations and the wider new energy vehicle value chain.
Students from the Business School, particularly those pursuing the Young CEO and AI Technology Manager pathways, will have opportunities to participate in industry projects and develop capabilities in business operations and digital management within the new energy sector.
China-Malaysia Cross-Border E-Commerce Industry Institute
Led by the university’s Business School, the China-Malaysia Cross-Border E-Commerce Industry Institute brings together nearly 70 universities and companies from China and Malaysia.
The institute will provide practical projects covering overseas market development, corporate governance, cross-border operations and e-commerce livestreaming.
Through an integrated education, industry and research model, it aims to develop professionals with both business and digital capabilities to support the continued growth of China–ASEAN cross-border commerce.
China-Malaysia AI Engineering Technology Centre
The China-Malaysia AI Engineering Technology Centre focuses on the digital transformation needs of small and medium-sized enterprises in Malaysia.
Through KLUST’s industry-academia initiative and its “Ruying Suixing” AI Agent platform, the Centre will collaborate with technology companies including Huawei, Pactera and Haier.
It will serve as a key practical training environment for students pursuing pathways such as AI Chief Information Officer, AI Technology Manager and Software Engineering Manager, giving them opportunities to participate in enterprise digitalisation projects and develop practical capabilities in AI applications and digital business operations.
China-Malaysia Digital Arts Industry Institute
The China-Malaysia Digital Arts Industry Institute will work with universities and leading industry partners to establish a China-ASEAN Digital Creative Joint Laboratory.
The initiative will draw on international digital technology projects and national-level laboratory resources to develop an industry platform spanning short-form drama, animation and digital arts.
It will also establish pathways connecting undergraduate, master’s and doctoral education. Business School students will have opportunities to participate in commercial planning and market development for cultural tourism and creative industry projects, strengthening the connection between digital technology, creative content and business management.
Together, the four industry institutes, the FANXING Excellence Global Technology Business School and the “Ruying Suixing” AI Agent platform will form an interconnected ecosystem.
The Business School will develop talent with business management and AI capabilities, while the industry institutes will provide practical industry environments and project opportunities. This model is designed to strengthen the connection between talent development and industry needs.
Professor Chen said KLUST would continue to bring together expertise and resources to support the development of the FANXING Excellence Global Technology Business School and its four industry institutes, using the initiative to strengthen teaching quality, institutional development and community and industry engagement.
The initiative also supports KLUST’s broader mission of “Empowering Students, Enriching Families”, while contributing to the development of students, industries and society.
Looking ahead: Strengthening China-Malaysia education and industry collaboration
Following the launch ceremony, distinguished guests moved to the International Conference Room for further discussions on talent development and industry-academia collaboration.
Participants agreed on the importance of education as a bridge for talent development and cross-cultural exchange, while recognising talent as a foundation for the continued development of industries and economies.
The establishment of the FANXING Excellence Global Technology Business School represents another step in practical cooperation between Malaysian and Chinese higher education institutions. Through stronger connections between universities and industry, the initiative aims to create new opportunities for talent development and contribute to the continued development of education and industry cooperation between China and ASEAN.
