Kuala Lumpur University of Science & Technology (KLUST) was represented at the 2026 Pujiang Innovation Forum – “Belt and Road” Seminar on AI Governance and Application Cooperation, held at Zhangjiang Science Hall in Shanghai.
Ir. Ts. Prof. Dr. Tan Chee Fai, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of KLUST, participated as both a Keynote Speaker and Roundtable Panellist, joining international experts, policymakers, researchers and technology leaders in discussing the future of artificial intelligence governance, trusted deployment and cross-border cooperation. The official programme brought together representatives from China, South Africa, Russia, Hungary and other international institutions.
In his keynote, “Governing AI for Shared Innovation: A Belt and Road Cooperation Framework for Trusted AI Applications,” Prof. Tan highlighted the need to move global AI cooperation beyond technology competition towards trusted, responsible and scalable deployment. His presentation emphasised interoperability of standards, AI assurance, data governance, capacity building and practical demonstration projects as important foundations for international AI cooperation.
A key message was that trustworthy AI should not be viewed merely as a compliance requirement, but as an important capability for market access and cross-border technology deployment. The proposed framework also highlighted opportunities for cooperation in sectors including manufacturing, infrastructure, logistics, healthcare, education and public services.
Prof. Tan’s participation reflects KLUST’s growing international engagement in artificial intelligence, engineering, digital transformation and responsible technology development, while strengthening academic and industry linkages between Malaysia, ASEAN, China and the wider international community.
