KLUST Co-Hosts 13th International Conference on BIM Technology in Kuala Lumpur

KUALA LUMPUR, 31 July 2026 — Kuala Lumpur University of Science and Technology (KLUST) co-hosted the 13th International Conference on BIM Technology from 30 to 31 July 2026, bringing together more than 200 engineering professionals, academics, researchers and digital technology representatives from across the region and beyond.

Held under the theme “Cross-Border Collaboration, Digital Intelligence for Shared Growth,” the conference provided an international platform for discussions on the future of digital construction, with a focus on Building Information Modelling (BIM), artificial intelligence, smart construction, prefabricated construction, engineering software, green infrastructure and digital project management.

Advancing Digital Construction Through Cross-Border Collaboration

The conference brought together experts and representatives from China, Malaysia, Korea, Singapore and the wider international community to examine how digital technologies can support the next generation of construction and engineering.

The event was organised by the Chinese Society for Graphics and co-hosted by several academic and professional institutions, including KLUST, the Chinese Society for Graphics Civil Engineering Graphics Branch, Journal of Information Technology in Civil Engineering and Architecture, the Institution of Engineers Malaysia, China Academy of Building Research and Tongji University. It was also supported by Malaysian industry and professional organisations.

Discussions explored how BIM and emerging technologies can be applied across the engineering lifecycle, from design and construction to project management, infrastructure and urban development.

The conference also highlighted the growing convergence between BIM, artificial intelligence and digital twins, reflecting the industry’s shift towards more connected and data-driven approaches to construction.

Connecting Academic Learning With Industry Practice

For KLUST, the conference also provided an opportunity to bring its academic community into direct contact with international experts and industry practitioners.

More than 50 KLUST students, staff and international student representatives participated in the conference, gaining exposure to current developments in digital construction and engineering while engaging with professionals from across the sector.

Participation in an international professional forum of this scale supports KLUST’s broader commitment to connecting academic learning with industry practice. It also provides students and academics with opportunities to exchange knowledge, build professional networks and gain a broader understanding of how emerging technologies are shaping the industries they will enter.

Strengthening KLUST’s Role in Regional Digital Innovation

The conference further strengthened KLUST’s engagement with international academic and professional networks in engineering and digital technology.

By bringing together researchers, educators, industry practitioners and technology companies, the event created opportunities for knowledge exchange and future collaboration in areas that are increasingly important to Southeast Asia’s infrastructure and construction sectors.

For KLUST, participation in international platforms such as the BIM Technology Conference supports its ambition to contribute to the development of industry-ready talent while strengthening connections between education, research and industry.

As digital technologies continue to reshape the built environment, collaboration across institutions and borders will be increasingly important. Through its participation in initiatives such as the International Conference on BIM Technology, KLUST continues to expand opportunities for academic exchange, industry engagement and innovation across Malaysia and the wider ASEAN region.
